Why did you choose Jehovahs Witnesses?

i'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.

if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?

if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?

My experience was a bit like yours, Kate Wild. I was 20, but in a totally bad place in my life, everything was going to hell, and a young beautiful pioneer sister began calling on me.

I wanted to be like her. She was so put together, so happy (she really was! She was one of those super-pioneers whose whole life was the truth), and her life was all sparkly and wonderful... There finally seemed to be a beautiful purpose to life... a wonderful loving God to serve (I became totally indoctrinated very quickly!), a whole association of brothers and sisters worldwide... and a paradise earth!

I bought it, hook, line, and sinker, and wouldn't escape for close to 30 years as I slowly began to wake up again.

i was feeling particularly hopeless about the whole jws being assholes thing and sick to death of pretending so ....

i rang my sister and told her that i no longer believe jws have the truth and the phone went silent, when i asked her to say something she just said if that was the case then she would have to hang up on me and then proceeded to indeed hang up..

so i texted her back immediately with fu..

I hope you have good friends or any extended family on the outside..?

I admire your taking a stand and wanting to be done with hiding who you are! I know how hard that is, and you always hope for the best. May God, or the universe, or whatever energies exist, or quantum particles that somehow attract things to us, or frequencies, or telepathic manipulation of aliens (threw that last one in there for the heck of it, lol, and to see if you were paying attention! :) ) -- bless you.

today, jehovah certainly has provided an abundance of spiritual men to shepherd his precious sheep, to strengthen his people for the future attack of the modern-day assyrian.

the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.

And then what's up with all this Assyrian stuff anyway? Did they not just say that they have done away with types and anti types, unless the scriptures clearly say there is a connection? Buncha yahoos. But follow us anyway and do exactly what we say, even though we change everything and our understanding of everything ....

Another scripture comes to mind, from Psalms 146: 3,4 -- "Do not put your trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, in whom there is no salvation..."

Yahoos. Idiots.

What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?

there were many addressed to me.

for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.

i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

On a hot summer day I was wearing a sleeveless blouse to the KH and an elder counselled me about my bra strap showing.

Another time I had some foot surgery done, and the brothers KNEW about my problem. My first meeting back, I had a slipper on my foot and a week later, there was a local needs part about the need to wear proper attire to the KH, to show respect for Jehovah's house of worship and not be overly-casual, as "some" might do, for example, by wearing slippers to the KH.

It's like death by a thousand cuts.

For me the worst thing is not having a helper anymore

one of the things that gave me confidence in life was that i believed i had the almighty creator/god watching over me, directing me, guiding my every step, protecting me from harm, and answering my prayers.

i now know that is not the case anymore.

i finally stopped praying.

I miss that comfort too.... Believing that I "knew".... that we had the answers... That we had the goddamn f***ing truth.

And now to feel so all alone... It hits me hard ... Yet I also feel that we are all in this together, though each person faces his own unknown destiny.

And I too, am now next in line, that "buffer" is all gone, my mommy having passed away the past few months... An experience I have yet to talk about on here. She was never a JW, thank god. I got into that stupidity all by myself....

The world feels smaller .... and I understand the phrase more and more that "each man is an island."

He sure is well dressed, though. I do like the combination of soft, dove-gray suit with white shirt and ice-blue tie. Not sure about the silk flower bunchie in his lapel.

So he dresses quite nice. But he looks as uncomfortable as hell.

And he is not dogmatic. LOL
